The mountain pass area of the Klausen is without doubt one of the most scenic in Switzerland. The route follows the high-level Schächental path with its fantastic landscapes, majestic mountains and unique flora and fauna.
For centuries the most direct means of passage between cantons Uri and Glarus was through the wild and romantic Schächen valley. Nowadays the high-level path on the sunny side of the valley starts at the Klausen pass, gently rising and falling high above Spiringen, Bürglen and Altdorf all the way to Eggbergen, while offering magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. The Schächen valley high-level path also offers much with regards to flora and fauna. High levels of precipitation and the impermeable terrain have given rise to numerous moors, which are home to many rare and protected plants and animals.
